Science and technology is the basis of modern civilization. The age in which live can rightly can called the age of science and technology. Also it is said that technology has changed how our world works, our way of life, how we communicate even enjoy. If all of these were true, we would probably have more free time for us. But some people say that technology has improved our lifestyle and has given us more free time. Others, however, say that we have less free time that the time when technology has little influence in us. Now we shall judge whether technology has given us more free time or not.
With the advent of the 21st century, technology has leapt to level that was unimaginable only even 50 years ago. The question is whether latest technology has provided us more free time than previous generation or not. In my view, people’s free time has been lessened due to tremendous advancement in modern technology.
Why is the value of time so important in our life?
In modern times, technological gadgets make our lives faster, easier and more convenient. For example, dishwasher, a worker-saving device in the home fetches people more free time. In addition, almost all modern kitchens have several electrical appliances that save our time. However people’s free live are continuously eroded because of the ubiquity of modern technological tools, such as computers with internet access and telecommunication equipment. These inventions such as expose the minds to spend more of their daily time. It is noteworthy that people now take fewer and shorter vacations following the increase in the number of technology-based activities. For instance, people seem to be more ambitious in today’s world, and they want a better quality of life of their families. This means that both parents usually need to work full time. So, it can be said that the time budget is burned because more time should be invested in activities previously ignored.
In conclusion we can say that life has been improved by technological advancements, particularly worker saving devices like phone and learning opportunities provided by the internet. So, there are some reasons to believe that people now get more free time due to development of technology but my own view is that amount of free time has decreased to a great extent over the last few decade.
